A very short list. Many minds and hearts, as they should be, are turned toward sweet Kodo, and what we are to make of his loss. I think while things are slow I'll just go ahead and forward messages as they come in, and put together a list at the end of each week, or a couple times a week depending on message volume, so we'll have the messages archived. If you'd rather receive the biweekly or weekly list, drop an e-mail. I'll just play it by ear as usual. Michael J., I'm still awaiting word from Dr. Johnson-Delaney about posting her article on the Web. Sorry for the delay, but she's been in England for awhile. Hope all is as well as can be expected with our adrenal (and non-adrenal) fur kids. Lynn Mc. Adrenal List #20, dated June 16, 1997 1. Tippie 2. Another Rescue 3. I am sad to report that we have just picked up another adrenal ferret from the Portsmouth Humane Society. She is between 4 and 6 years of age, MF, female, chocolate. For those of you who know, she is the spitting image of my last very bad adrenal ferret, Hope. We called her Hope because we "hoped" she would make it home from the Norfolk SPCA. We were honored with that lovely lady's presence for almost a year (Hope passed to Rainbow bridge last September) Same pattern of baldness (hair on face, small stripe around top of ribs, hair on feet and legs), same neglect (owner wouldn't even turn her in in person - gave to a neighbor!) and toenails badly overdue for a trimming and dirty!! I pick her up, and I hear her softly start dooking, and begin licking my hand!!!! She is absolutely adorable!! We have decided, in keeping with the chocolate adrenals girls, to call her "Faith". She is also so skinny, I swear you can see thru her - she weighs in at almost 3/4 pound but so sweet!! I am going to try to fatten her up before attempting any surgery and evaluate her then for her candidacy for lysodren/surgery/flutamine. Keep your fingers crossed for sweet little Faith! And once again the > vet found nothing. He examined every organ. Her pancreas and kidney looked > good. He couldn't find any regrowth of the left adrenal nor anything wrong > with the right.> I'm so sorry to hear that nothing was found, or done, Barbara. I was so disappointed when this was the upshot of Percy's first surgery. He continues to have symptoms, though, and we will try Ovaban for the male agression for awhile. I'll let everyone know how it works. It won't help with the adrenal problem, but will at least bide us some time till we decide what to do. > The vet has suggested that the tumor could be located in an area like the > lungs or brain. Personally I don't think so because other than the hair > loss and scratching she is very very active. She eats well and is curious > and lively as all get out. I started all my ferrets on Timmy's recipe just > over a month ago. I still have hope that the recipe will help her. That does sound farfetched. I've been wondering which excessive hormones cause sexual symptoms and which cause hair loss. Does anyone know? I think six hormones are tested for in the Tennessee Adrenal Panel. I'll be interested to hear if Timmy's recipe helps Tippie. > I don't know what to do next. She is slowly going bald. If its not > adrenal what else could it be? Can a ferret have adrenal disease yet not > have tumors on the glands? If yes what do you do for treatment. If you got any answers to this Barbara, I'd be interested to see them. It's a pressing question I've had for some time. By the way, has Tippie had the Tennesee adrenal panel run? > My vet has suggested putting her on Lysodren, but if he can't find a tumor > would this do more harm then good? Very good point. And question ??? > I need advice badly here. I've decided not to put Tippie through surgery > again, but I'm not ready to give up on her. There must be something I can > do. I can live with a hairless ferret, in fact she looks kinda cute, but > if there is anything that I can do to help her I will. > > I'm posting this to both the FML and Adrenal List, hoping that some > veterinarians out there might see it and be able to offer me advice. If > anyone has any suggestions please contact me. These are all very good questions. I haven't had the time to comb the FML these days for adrenal posts/answers. Did you get any answers? I hope so. A special hug for Tippie for going through her third surgery like a little trooper! Please let us know soon how she's doing.
