Just to remind you, as explained in the FAIML before this, this is the last FAIML until October 4th as I'll be visiting family in New Mexico until then. In case you don't know about the Ferret Mailing List (FML), which comes out daily, see the intro paragraph below about posting there. Please make sure to reply directly to the messages in today's FAIML, if you want them to get your reply before the next list. Fuzzy hugs and may you all be warm, safe, and well :) Lynn 1. The Sunshine Gang 2. Moxy Update Date 3. Re: mixing lysodren The FERRET ADRENAL/INSULINOMA MAILING LIST (FAIML) is a group that's come together to share support and information about adrenal and insulinoma diseases. FAIML comes out in digest format three to six times per week, depending on the number of posts sent, and their urgency. FAIML information is the opinion, only, of subscribers, mostly ferret caretakers. It is not medical advice, comes with no guarantee of accuracy, and is not meant to replace the examination and medical oversight of a qualified veterinarian. If your ferret is sick or exhibiting signs of illness take your fur kid to the most ferret-experienced vet you can find! A ferret-experienced vet is one of the most important services you can provide to your ferret. TO POST: Write POST at the end of your subject heading (the more specific you can be in your subject heading, the better) and send to . URGENT POSTS: If you feel the message is urgent please mark it POST URGENT and I'll send it out to subscribers as soon as I can, then include the message in the next list. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: Please write POST ANONYMOUS after your subject heading if you don't want your address or last name published. SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE: Just use the one address for posts, subscription questions, requests, cancellations, comments, etc. The list is run by hand so just send me an e-mail. ADRENAL/INSULINOMA WEBSITE: FAIML ARCHIVES/PHOTOS: Past FAIMLs are being archived, with a search feature, on Michael Janke's adrenal/insulinoma web site: . Michael is also kindly posting pictures of FAIML subscribers and the ferrets at this site in the FAIML Album. Check out his site for more info. PAM GREENE's FERRET FAQs: I suggest people read (and reread) Pamela Greene's Disease FAQ's on Insulin and Adrenal diseases, as they offer a good background. I forward them to all new subscribers, and will gladly send them upon request. I also send the "Disease Package", a file that tells how to get all six of Pamela Greene's FAQs on ferret diseases. Pam also has excellent FAQ's about general ferret care as well, and a link to these may be found on the FERRET CENTRAL web site: . THE FERRET MAILING LIST (FML): The FML has 3,000+ ferret-loving subscribers and the topic is simply ferrets, ferrets, and more ferrets. Moderated by Mr. Bill Gruber, it's a great source of ferret entertainment and information. Visit FERRET CENTRAL on the web (see paragraph above) for more info on the FML. To subscribe to the FML, send email to its moderator, Bill Gruber, at and ask to be added. You can also try subscribing automatically by sending email to with the command SUBSCRIBE FERRET in the body of the email. 1. Subject: The Sunshine Gang From: Buetow Date sent: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 10:14:35 -0500 (CDT) Hi Everybody, First of all, condolences to all who have lost their little loved ones recently and best wishes to those who are ill. I wish I could say my gang is doing great, but I just don't believe it. AD: At times seems low on energy. His feces have a terrible (and unfortunately very strong) smell to them, plus they have a yellowish tinge. His glucose was down again on the last visit to the vet, so we've upped his pred. He's still urinating in lots of little puddles and we still can't figure out why. Does anybody have any ideas on the feces or the urine? Buddy: Her glucose was also down again, so we upped her pred. Xan: She's just not acting herself. Her glucose was okay, but she seems so lethargic. She never grew all the hair back on her tail and now seems to be losing it again, plus she's feeling greasy and has a different odor from the other two. My greatest fear is that she now has cancer in the other adrenal gland. The vet said wait and see. All three have had varyingly soft stools this week. I'm hoping that is just something left over from the ECE and caused by the huge variations in temperature we are having this week (from highs in the upper 50's to highs in the lower 80's). Sorry this is so long. Thanks for listening. Chris and the Sunshine Gang buetowc@sls.lib.il.us 2. Subject: Moxy Update Date From: "Silver Eagle" Date sent: Sat, 25 Sep 1999 00:10:53 -0400 Hi everyone We took Moxy back to the University of Guelph yesterday. Generally they were pretty pleased with her progress and so were we. She had gone almost completely bald after her shot of Lupron, but we had been told that she may seem to get worse before she started to get better. She is now sporting a new coat all over, except for her tail. It's still very short, but it's soft and beautiful. Her vulva has shrunk to normal size. For the first time since May, you really have to look to find it! She has gained some weight, and her energy level has increased. She even did a little war dance for me the other night. She was a little anaemic last month so they did more blood work and her haemoglobin has greatly improved and is almost normal! Moxy got her second shot of Lupron and it was the 3 month one this time. She will go back to see Dr. Taylor in 3 months and will probably be referred back to our regular vet for further shots, as long as my vet is comfortable with storing the Lupron etc. If not we will continue to take her to Guelph. It's a long drive, but well worth the extra effort, if she continues to do so well. I would like to thank everyone for the prayers and good thoughts for our Moxy girl. I am so pleased, I could just explode. We continue to keep all of the sick, abused and abandoned ferrets in our prayers. Sally St. Germain and her 10 "Little Saints." Hi.....my name is Sally.....I am a ferret-a-holic!!!!!! 3. Subject: Re: mixing lysodren From: "Mary L. My Duck >Soup My vet and pharmacist say the same thing about the Lysodren. I could mix it with Ferretone because of the oil base, but not with anything waterbased as it loses it's potency. I'm curious what your pharmacist says.
