Just a reminder there will be no FAIML's sent out between April 4-8, as I'll be in Alaska for work. So, if you send replies this week, make sure to send to the poster as well as FAIML. And remember, you can always post to the daily FML, which has 3,000+ helpful ferret fans subscribed (info in the paragraphs below). Hugs to all your fuzzies. We could use your prayers or well wishes for our Wally, who is having a hard time. Love, Lynn and the currently fairly-furred five 1. FAIML #407; April 2, 2000 (Brewer's Yeast) 2. Lupron Treatment for adrenal Tumors The FERRET ADRENAL/INSULINOMA MAILING LIST (FAIML) is a group that's come together to share support and information about adrenal and insulinoma diseases. FAIML comes out in digest format three to six times per week, depending on the number of posts sent, and their surgency. FAIML information is the opinion, only, of subscribers, mostly ferret caretakers. It is not medical advice, comes with no guarantee of accuracy, and is not meant to replace the examination and medical oversight of a qualified veterinarian. If your ferret is sick or exhibiting signs of illness take your fur kid to the most ferret- experienced vet you can find! A ferret- experienced vet is one of the most important services you can provide to your ferret. ADRENAL/INSULINOMA WEBSITE: FAIML ARCHIVES/PHOTOS: Past FAIMLs are being archived, with a search feature, on Michael Janke's adrenal/insulinoma web site: . Michael is also kindly posting pictures of FAIML subscribers and the ferrets at this site in the FAIML Album. Check out his site for more info. PAM GREENE's FERRET FAQs: I suggest people read (and reread) Pamela Greene's Disease FAQ's on Insulin and Adrenal diseases, as they offer a good background. I forward them to all new subscribers, and will gladly send them upon request. I also send the "Disease Package", a file that tells how to get all six of Pamela Greene's FAQs on ferret diseases. Pam also has excellent FAQ's about general ferret care as well, and a link to these may be found on the FERRET CENTRAL web site: . THE FERRET MAILING LIST (FML): The FML has 3,000+ ferret-loving subscribers and the topic is simply ferrets, ferrets, and more ferrets. Moderated by Mr. Bill Gruber, it's a great source of ferret entertainment and information. Visit FERRET CENTRAL on the web (see paragraph above) for more info on the FML. To subscribe to the FML, send email to its moderator, Bill Gruber, at and ask to be added. Excuse me for being dense, but am I correct in saying the "bottom line" is DO NOT give yeast to insulinomic ferrets? My little guy (5 yrs old) has been getting a teaspoon/day in his "duck soup" for at least a year. He was operated on in Aug, 1998 which confirmed his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Currently Bodhih gets 3 doses/daily of Proglyceum and a dose of prednisone/daily. His appetite remains quite good - the worst symptom continues to be the degeneration of his back legs. Of course, he's more tired than playful these days, but still gets a glint in his eye whenever he's put on the bed with me and my toes are exposed. . . . Since his surgery, he has only gone into a coma-like state ONCE (april '99) and that was the direct result of fasting him for a vet exam and the additional distress they put him through to take unnecessary and useless xrays; I still feel guilty for allowing this to happen to him. Please clarify the yeast business for me - - I will stop it immediately if it is lowering his b.s. Many thanks. Dooks, Barbara & the Bodacious One 2. Lupron Treatment for adrenal Tumors From: "Heidi Lepak" Date sent: Mon, 3 Apr 2000 10:52:39 -0300 I have two ferrets, Rocki & Silveretta, both of whom have adrenal tumors. Due to the fact that I live in Puerto Rico, surgery was not an option as there are no ferret-wise vets here. Also because of government regulations, I could not travel to the states for this operation since I would not be able to return with my babies. The next best option was Lupron injection. On Jan. 14, 2000 each ferret was given a 2000 mg 4 month depot injection of Lupron. It has now been 10 weeks and the results are absolutely amazing. I have pre and post excellent photos available for e-mail. If anyone desires these photos, please e-mail me privately and I will more than gladly send them to you. This is a wonderful learning experience. If there were some way to post directly to this list I would do so, but have no idea how to do it.
