Got him to eat some soup last night. I can't see any signs of any kibble being consumed. Poops look just fine. Of course, he chose last night to play "dead ferret" on me. The evening after surgery is not the best time for them do to that. I went to put a blanket over him and he refused to move, open his eyes, or respond in any way. My heart stopped for a few seconds. The surgery lasted about 30-45 minutes, I believe. Didn't really consciously notice the starting time. It was fascinating to watch. He'll be spending the day at the vet today since I need to go to work. Please keep him in your thoughts for a speedy recovery. Katharine Melatonin Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 23:27:13 -0400 From: "Steve Fontneau" i have a 6 year old male, nueman, he`s a big blond boy. he was very sick last year with adrenal problems. he had surgery in june , 99. the right adrenal tumor was removed. he made a good recovery , but was still nude and slept a lot. about 6 months later i put him on 1 mg. of melatonin every afternoon. 6 months later he started to grow hair! his energy level is back up, he`s playful again and has a great appetite. and it is so wonderful to see him with a full coat of hair, he`s beautiful and happy. the only change has been the melatonin. i think it works. yeast (again) Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 08:58:12 -0700 From: "Glenn Johnson" Ferret Friends, I probably caused confusion in my yeast post by saying "lowers blood sugar levels after eating", which should have read helps prevent a rise in BS after eating. We give high protein foods to insulinomic ferrets to cause a rise in BS. My insulinomic Chuki was on yeast supplement for a short time. After a post, to this board, by Jerry Murray DVM, advising against the use of yeast, Chuki's yeast was discontinued. Chuki's daily active time has been recorded since he had pancreas surgery, a year and a half ago. An undeniable, measurable increase in his activity was the immediate result of discontinuing the yeast. That was posted here, showing active time for his last eight days on yeast, and for the eight following days which were, without fail, 10 percent (or more ) higher. Dr. Murray is considered an expert in ferret care. Dr Karen Purcell, who also posts occasionally to the FAIML, advocated the use of yeast in her book "Ferrets, a Guide for the Practitioner", but has since, in a post to the FAIML, reversed her stance. Not long ago, partial pancreatectomies were unheard of, as was Lupron for ferrets, as was cryosurgery for ferrets. For many vets, they are still unheard of. Things change. Bless the Ferrets Glenn and Chuki Tahitian Noni Juice Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 09:01:38 -0400 From: "Thomas Osburn" Amanda: I have been using this supplement for a about a year now. About 4 years ago, I adopted a red-eyed white from the shelter with a rat tail. She had this tail for years after. Approx. a year ago a friend introduced me to Noni juice, she had been giving it to her ferrets. After a few months, this albino grew a magnificent bushy tail. I had been doing nothing different except adding Noni juice to their ferret soup I make. I only use it as a dietary supplement. It is very expensive, but my babies are worth every penny. My snowball is 7 years old and had ECE very bad before leaving the shelter back in 1996. This debilitating disease left her very weak in the hind quarters. I feel the Noni has helped her through her older years giving a little relief. I have six other geriatric ferrets, all rescues from various places, and two others at 5 and 6 years old have also never been sick. Any other questions, please e-mail me and I will be glad to answer. Mary Osburn Member of Broward Ferret Rescue and Referral TAHITIAN NONI JUICE Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 22:49:46 -0700 From: "STEPHANIE GRANT" Amanda, Hi, I had used Tahitian Noni Juice on Claudia, going on, I think a year before she crossed over (6-2-99). I did notice an increase of energy after starting her on it. Claudia had Insulinoma and Adrenal. I found out about Tahitian Noni Juice from Carin Riley, through FAIML and Michael Janke's Shelter Website. She is simply wonderful, in everyway and she loves ferrets. Check out: http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/riley.htm She told me, daily give the healthy ones 3 drops & the ill ones to give 6 drops a day. 2 Legged pets take a Tablespoon a day. (Yes, we can use it too.) Everyone of the Closet Thieves, loved it, with the exception of Claudia. Any & everything that came in a syringe was YUCKY-YUCKY. But she got it and I noticed an great improvement. I would recommend it to everyone, 2 & 4 legged. If I can answer anything else, please feel free to e-mail me directly.
