Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 13:18:08 -0700 From: contact@gan.ca Thank you Hi everyone, I wanted to tell you all how much I appreciated your help and support during Silver's illness. We tried all of your suggestions, but he was just too far gone, and nothing we did could save him. We had to have Silver euthanized last night. Although I will never be able to erase the guilt of having to do that to him, I know that we exhausted all options, and did everything humanly possible to save him. In the end, Silver was just in too much pain, and the painkillers had long stopped having an effect. His nose was completely white, a sign that he was near death, and he was just crying all the time. We couldn't let him continue to suffer like that for the sake of the few hours that he might have continued to live. We were with him when he died, and he died looking into my eyes. Silver was my best friend, and the most dignified, gentle, kind soul that I have known. He had a happy life with us, and gave so much to us and the other ferrets in return. I will never forget him. Before we took him in to the vet, all of the other ferrets curled up with him for a last sleep together. It was as if they knew. I am very ashamed that the first time I reached out to this list was during a crisis, and I can't tell you enough what your kindness and concern meant. At least now we have a good idea of why he died, we just found out too late to stop the damage that had been done. I know that some of the treatments that you suggested made his last few days much more comfortable than they would have been, and they gave us hope. I cannot thank you enough for that. You are all truly wonderful people. Rebecca Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 22:51:19 EDT From: Cjbandit@aol.com Thank you Hi Rebecca, In response to Silver, I thought of something Dr. Weiss had mention to me when Bandit was feeling nauseous, he had said that if carafate didn't work that pedia predisone would help increase his appetite. You may want to investigate this further. You and Silver will be in my thoughts and prayers, Christina Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 18:38:09 -0700 From: "Erik and Shanna Gamache" Silver I agree with several people on the FAIML. I had a ferret with an intestinal blockage that did not show up on an x-ray. I fact she was misdiagnosed by 2 vets as a probable insulinoma before Dr. Deborah Kemmerer in Florida say blockage. She was right and 3 years later, Flower is still alive and kicking. Her symptoms included severe lethargy and weight loss, vomiting, and pawing at the mouth and grinding her teeth. I also, would opt for an exploratory. Flower was so weak before her surgery that they had to really pump her full of dextrose to get her strength up. Thought your little guy my be the same way. Hope this helps. Shanna Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 09:09:15 -0700 From: "Corrie (MsFerret)" Any strange behavior effects from Lupron? Hi, Two of my ferrets age 6 1/2 have been on monthly lupron injections since the end of April. Both ferrets have grown all their mhair back and Flea's (the female) vulva has gone back to normal size. Before the injections neither ferret was a biter. Now I can't keep them off my feet. Especially Satchmo. I wear slippers for protection but he just digs and digs at them and the bites my ankles really hard. Flea bites less often but also heads for the feet. At $24.00 a bottle I took an ounce of it too. I have read that you use 6 drops for sick babies and 3 a day for the well ones. I have decided to use 6 drops for all of them until it has gotten into their little systems. My little annie has had two adrenal surgeries and not doing well. She is on casodex at $ 40.00 a pill and still getting bald Noni is my last hope. I will let you know how it is working or not working on these guys. What is it and what is it supposed to do? I have a ferrret who was diagnosed with Insulinmoa in March. She is doing alright for now with her regular diet and 0.5 cc of Pred once a day. The vet would like to keep things as they are and not change anything including her diet. She said not to give her the Bob C's gravy or ANYTHING else. In a way I am confused. It is one of my biggest fears to see her go through a seizure and yet I want to be there if it happens. Thank You.
