Intro Post ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 09:04:34 PDT From: Diana Ashton Subject: Intro post PLEASE POST Hi Lynn and Hello to everyone, This is my first posting. Thanks so much to everyone who contributes to this mailing list.It might make life easier for the little ones we all love so much. I have 10 fuzzies. My first one, Molly is 3 1/2 years old and from MF.I started noticing her fur thinning and her Vulva was swollen. I started looking on line and ended up at where else but Ferret Central. That is where I learned of Adrenal Disease. I called my vet and he confirmed my suspicion. He is a mobile vet and comes to my house so he is really not yet set up for major surgeries. But, to my dismay there was not a vet in Fairbanks who had ever done Adrenal Surgery. We called Anchorage and found a vet who would do it for 850.00. OUCH!!! But Molly was worth it. In May she had her left adrenal removed. The vet visually checked the right and the surroundind area and saw no clear signs of involvment. Molly came out of the surgery with flying colors. We began to watch for signs of any improvment but none came. Molly continued to lose her fur. She was still in good spirits and she would still try to take on my Biggest male. All 1.2 pounds of her. After it became clear that the surgery did no good, we bagan to look at our options. Oh, The histology report came back readind the left with an Adrenocortical Adenona. The lab felt that the borders looked clean and the vet removed it all.. But I know that it only takes 1 cell to start it all over again. Back to options. There were not very mant. For financial reasons, I could not afford another 850.00 surgery with no guarantee of results. My vet aws not completely happy with the Lysodren but that was all there was. Molly took her first dose of Lysodren on August 30. I give her .50 ml od prednizone 2 hours before the Lysodren to help stablize her blood sugar. Molly took 1 lm og Lysodren for 7 days then went to meds on Tuesday and Fridays. She will be taking her 10th dose today. So far so good. I also give her karo syrup to help with the blood sugar. Don't know if it will work but she loves it so it can't hurt. Molly is taking the suspension in a medicine syringe. I can get the preds in her easy enough but as soon as she gets a whiff oh the Lysodren she starts to snort and drool, I have tried mixing it with ferretone and with the karo but to know avail. That stuff must have a really strong taste and smell. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might make it easier for her? I to have had many spit baths mixed with Lysodren. I just hate to here her cry so. She is such i teenie little thing. Every time I give her a dose I know I could be hurting her.But we don't have a whole lot of other options. Has there ever been any studies done on what causes this disease. My vet, Dr Loible, has a strong suspicion that it is from them being spayed or neutered so early. There has got ot be a way to get these breeders to be responsible for what they are putting on the market. They have a responsibility as well. I am off my soap box now. Thanks again for thin venue and I hope all the Adrenal babies out there have someone who loves them as much as I love mine. Fuzzy ferret hugs to all and warm furry ferret dreams. Diana and her gang, Molly, Maggie, Buddy, Boo, Rosie, Roxie, Annabelle, Cocoa, Max and Jake. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com -----------That's it for Today!...
