FERRET ADRENAL/INSULINOMA MAILING LIST (FAIML) is a list featuring support and information about adrenal and insulinoma diseases. It comes out in digest format three to six times per week, depending on the urgency and number of posts. It is the opinion, only, of subscribers, and is not intended as medical advice, comes with no guarantee of accuracy, and is not meant to replace the examination and medical oversight of a qualified veterinarian. If your ferret is exhibiting signs of illness please take him or her to the most ferret-experienced vet you can find. A ferret-experienced vet is one of the most important services you can provide for your ferret. TO POST: Write POST at the end of your subject heading and send to . Remember: the more specific you can be in your subject heading the greater the chance someone will be able to find your important info when searching the archives. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers - I'm hoping for a good surgical outcome and a quick recovery, but it's in God's hands now. He's in great health otherwise, and still acts like his ferrety self, so I have great hope that he'll pull through the ordeal well. I know Arnold and Sophie will be glad to have their buddy back full time. Want to say thanks again to everyone who offered advice and support - there are too many to reply to directly! Thanks again! Laura Arnold,Clint, and Sophie Date sent: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 15:44:04 EST From: JHerge9760@aol.com Subject: Cardiomyopathy This is kind of off the main subject but I need some answers. I rushed my 4.5 year old fuzzy Max to the vet on Saturday because he looked and was acting funky, licking his lips and not moving too much. On the way there he collapsed. His BG was 66 and he had an enlarged heart with fluid around it. He was diagnosed with Insulinoma and possibly Cardiomyopathy. However the medicines to treat both of them counteract each other my vet says. So he is only on Pred and Carafate for now. My question is what is Cardiomyopathy and what causes it? What are the treatments? Life expectancies and quality? Seeing as I rushed him in when they were leaving I didn' want to hold them up any longer with questions. Max has a recheck this Saturday. My other ferret Keegan had the surgery in 3/99 and her last BG check was 1 week ago and she is at 103 - Miraculous says Dr. L (our vet). I also have an adrenal ferret who had the left adrenal removed and it was cancerous. What does this mean??? Looking for all and any answers!!! My Chuki got his 4 month Lupron shot this morning. I will post to the FAIML at the first sign of anything good (or bad). Chuki can be seen at http://www.ctaz.com/~johno/ , along with my beloved Giorgi, Gigi and Gypy, who wait for us at the Bridge. I recently introduced a new ferret into >the group after he was pronounced healthy and I thought it was stress at >first but now all but one of my older ferrets are ill. Any ideas? >Laurel Once again (I find myself saying this all of the time) - why is it not ECE - ferret coronavirus, the agent of ECE is by far the most common cause of outbreaks of diarrhea in households - not one ferret, but multiple. There aren't a lot of diseases that cause that presentation. Have there been any new introductions, visitors, or even a visit to the pet shop within 2-3 days of the outbreak? What is the characteristics of the diarrhea? Are you force feeding them, and have you switched them to a bland diet? If you have no idea what something is, it is generally not a good idea to say what it's not. At this point, I don't think ECE can yet be ruled out.... I'll bet there are a few responses on this topic. My vet Debbie tells me to 'never' fast a ferret prior to surgery. Jade has had 3 and never once fasted.
