Faith is growing hair! Lisa, that's great news. With Wally's sprouting all over his back, and now on his tummy!!!, I think I can understand that ecstatic feeling! Michael, I loved your "Smithsonian" comment about my 40 mg harddrive. There is a little PC museum down the road a bit at the "Re-PC" store. I could check with them :>>> Fuzzy hugs as usual, from Lynn and the Gang of Seven - fuzzier than usual! Adrenal List #52, dated October 20, 1997 1. Faith! 2. Lynn SUPER NEWS!!!!!!!! Faith, the amazing, licking, dooking mothering hairless ferret is GETTING HAIR!!!! Yeah! She looks terrible right now, with a chocolate coat coming in, but I am so happy for her! So far, it may be a full coat recovery, based on the total body bruised look that she has, but I am just estatic! Faith, I am very glad that I decided to do the surgery, even with all the problems that we have had, just so that I may be honored to see you in your full glory! Happy, Happy, Ferret dancing! I and others have found that Noni, although having many benefits alone, works much better when accompanied by other natural remedies. I have had my 3 adrenal ferrets on it in association with my natural adrenal remedy and all have reduced or non-existant symptoms. I also have two insulinoma babies and find that the one that has responded the best to Noni is the one who is also on vitamins to support the pancreas. The other has just begun those vitamins. So keep those chins up and don't lose hope. If anyone is interested in the vitamins/remedy mentioned, I will be happy to e-mail them a copy of what I use. Is is possible that it could be a >very large tumor or something else Sounds like he might have an enlarged spleen. Seems like ferrets' spleens get enlarged with any kind of illness or even no illness at all. Our Sid had a very large spleen that also made his abdomen feel rather hard. It felt like a tumor to me, being so pronounced, but it was in fact his spleen, which was eventually removed. He lived a normal, happy life for two years after that. The reason your fuzzy is having trouble breathing is due to pressure on the diaphragm. He'll be a lot more comfortable without the tumor, and he is suffocating with it. -Dr. Karen drkaren@world.std.com 6.---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 20 Oct 1997 20:23:32 -0700 (PDT) From: Lynn McIntosh Subject: Replies: Large Adrenal Tumors; Teflon Tubing; Seasonal Weight Gain > Date: Thu, 16 Oct 1997 01:39:36 -0700 > From: Chris & Shelley Knudsen > Subject: Large adrenal tumors > > Hello! > > lost all of his hair a little over a year ago, and then grew it all back, > except for his tail and legs, so he has most likely had it for quite a > while. He is very sweet, although not real energetic. He kind Hi Shelley. Welcome to the list! I certainly vote for the exploratory and removal of the tumor, if it can be done! Perhaps something could be seen in an x-ray, if an ultrasound isn't an option. I hope that stapler will come soon, and I'm glad you're willing to travel to find an experienced ferret vet! > From: David L Adams > As a note if anyone needs a piece of small teflon tubing- small enough to > use as a catheter for a ferret- let me know as I have a small supply > which I got from Cole-Palmer years ago. It saved Bobo's life.. Hi David. I hope Bobo is doing really well! I would love to get a piece of the teflon tubing. When Percy was blocked, two vets tried three different catheters and couldn't get them through (though this may have been a function of the amount of crystals in his urinary tract, as found during the surgery from which he didn't awake). But I would like to hedge all my bets. I'll be happy to pay postage or whatever you need. My address is 3246 44th Ave. S.W., Seattle, WA, 98116. I'll also show it to my vet and see what she thinks about getting some for her office. Are they available at a supply outlet for vets anywhere? It sounds like they're hard to come by. > From: Anoymous > Subject: Re: Weight Gain > has gained so much weight in last couple of weeks he does not fit > through the exit hole. Let me ask the question > anyway do alot of ferrets gain weight that quickly and that amount > during the change in weather? > Jill Owned By > Rupert, Fiona & Eb Hi Jill. Thank you very much for your kind words about the list! Of my seven fuzzies only one has that extreme of weight gain from summer to winter. One gained nine ounces, another 11 ounces. Others three ounces or less. Tarzan, healthy and robust, gained the 11 ounces between late August to late October. Now that I review my records I see it took Petey TWO months to gain a pound (sorry!). I keep records so that I'll know which ones not to be alarmed about, but we'll see this year if the same ones gain about the same amount. Other things can cause extreme weight gain, such as hypothyroidism (rare). Cardiomyopathy can cause the appearance of a distended abdomen due, as can adrenal disease. That's why I like to track my fuzzies annual weight gain and loss... so that I can attempt to differentiate it from possible symptoms of disease. Of course, with adrenal disease and cardiomyopathy, other symptoms would probably be present. Fuzzy hugs to all Lynn Mc. --------------------------End of Ferret List #52--------------------
